Using google trends is pretty easy and straight forward, it's also a great way to find new niches for new blogs and topic web sites. First thing you want to do is go to google trends. Next you're gonna want to click on 'More Hot Trends' on the bottom right.
Here is a little secret: .com's only matter to major business sites, and big time blogs. The key to successful Niche building, is BULK SITES. The more the better. If you have the money - by all means go and buy up 100 .com websites for $800. If you're poor like the rest of us - or a bit frugal - you might want to try .info names
