In the past few days I’ve added Performancing ads to this site. You may notice them on the top right of my blog. Performancing ads aren’t just like every other ad network out their.

First off it’s a 125×125 pixel ad exchange.

Secondly you can set your own price for your ads per week.

Thirdly you can even earn credits by showing ads that you can use to advertise your own ads. I’m completely sold and recommend everyone signup now.

You can give me some love and signup by my affiliate link, I’d be extremely greatful: Make Money With PerformancingAds

Your Ad on this Blog for $2.50 per week!

As a bonus for anyone who’s quick - I’m letting you purchase an ad on my blog for $2.50/week. That’s less than the cost of a milkshake at McDonalds. You can go here to purchase your ads. Please note this offer expires at the end of August.

My blog pulled in over 1,250 unique hits today alone, so you can definitely expect to get some decent exposure from advertising on this site. As soon as all my ad slots are taken I will be raising the weekly price to $6/week, per thousand daily unique visitors.

Each blog post I post goes out to a network of 5405+ twitterers, 657+ on facebook, 205+ subscribers, and all my other networks via pingfm. I highly recommend signing up w/ Performancing ads today, and advertising on my site.

23Apr Is your Blog a Dead Beast? 16 Ways Bring it to life!

I launched this blog a year ago this month, and when I first launched it my primary focus was to make money. I’ve learned a lot in that year, and made many mistakes. I actually gave up on this blog for about 7 months.

I came back to it on March 15th of this year. In fact I had lost all the previous posts, I’d done and had to start anew. (Roughly 130+ posts gone). My original theme was using the law of attraction to bring $1 Million into my life by the age of 30, which I believe was perhaps a bit over zealous.

My new goal - apply what I’ve learned in my year of blogging, and help other’s become successful. I’d also like to launch a few social related businesses eventually, that are currently in the ‘idea’ stages.

My 50 States Roadtrip / American Blogger Directory is just part of gaining an keeping an audience.

You’ll notice the most successful blogs out there aren’t just individual people talking while everyone listens. The most successful blogs are communities, where people interact with what the blogger is writing.

You’ll notice almost every post they write gets tons of comments, trackbacks, pingbacks, etc… It’s no coincidence - without this community atmosphere on your blog it is nearly impossible to keep your blogging growing.

Without interaction from your readers your blog will die. Just as a flower needs sunlight to live, a blog needs comments / reactions from the community at large.

Here are some tips to build your Community.

1. Tweet ALL posts to Twitter. There are some good wordpress plugins for this like Twitter Tools or Twitter Tools for Tweetburner. I highly recommend tweetburner because of it’s statistics and shorter urls.

2. Build your Social Presence. Many might call it spamming, but if you look at Robert Scoble, and Jason Calacanis this is how they got huge. They built up the max number of friends on facebook, and they have 15000+ followers, a lot of those were gained by initiating the follow, ie following first.

3. Comment Frequently on other blogs. There is a secret power method for this which I will mention in another upcoming post, I will show you how to build hundred of incoming links extremely fast and easy.

4. Respond to your Audience. If someone sends you an email, drops a comment, replies to a twitter comment you made, etc.. Take the time to respond. Now when you have 10,000 hits daily it can get hard, and you might miss a few here and there - in blogging you don’t need to be perfect, just do your best.

People like to know they’re being listened to, this will go along way towards building a large following.

5. Ask a lot of questions. People like to be heard, and asking your readers questions via blog posts is a great way to give them this opportunity to voice their opinions. This makes it more fun to visit your blog, and increases the interactivity of your blog.

A lot of times I will ask a specific question at the end of my blog posts, and it will usually garner a lot of comments.

6. Be kind to those who are kind to you.  When someone takes the time to follow you or add you on a social networking site - reciprocate. Also when someone takes the time to link to your site - go to the post and leave a thankyou comment.

7. Stumble incoming links. If you stumble all of your own links, you’ll eventually end up getting banned. One secret is stumbling any and all incoming links. If someone is kind enough to link to you in a post, go ahead and stumble or digg it, and you will get a lot of traffic, plus you’ll help them get traffic. It’s a win-win scenario.

8. Link to other blogs often. I’ve talked about this a lot - but linking to other blogs will get you on their radar as it shows in the dashboard on wordpress, and secondly you’ll get a pingback / trackback from their site.

9. Start a meme. My Twitter Meme: Feed the Twitter Monster, has taken off hugely and gained a ton of incoming links and traffic, be creative though, and make it your own idea. Do something unique.

10. Start a resource for bloggers or website owners. I’ve just launched my American Blogger Directory, but it has already received a ton of hits and results. This of course is also part of my 50 state roadtrip, which is looking to be getting a lot of acclaim online as well.

11. Network with other bloggers. Friends will always give you more attention, and having more blogger friends never hurt anyone.

You can use some tips from my article on becoming friends with A-listers, many of the tips relate to networking in general.

12. Build your subscriber feeds. Market it anyway possible. The simple fact is you need subscribers, if you haven’t read it - here’s 39 great ways to get more RSS Subscribers.

13. Make your posts simple to follow and you’ll have mass appeal. Make sure the text doesn’t run together, as most people have low-attention spans and can’t be bothered with reading whole paragraphs anymore. Lists are huge in fact I try to write 1 list every week, as they tend to bring me a lot of traffic just because they’re lists. - I know it’s crazy!

14. Get active in Forums. If you have the time, you might want to try being active in popular forums, or just answering questions on the different answer sites like yahoo answers, this will help build credibility, and lead to more traffic.

15. Share and share alike, then share some more! When you launch a new resource, pillar article, etc you definitely need to tweet / send it to your social networks. However, you should also retweet it, if it is bringing in traffic, and subscribers.

I generally send my rss feed link to twitter once every 3-4 days asking for more subscribers. Especially when I get close to the next big number like 200 - asking people to help you ‘break’ a number is a great way to get them to actually subscribe, it might be tricky but it works.

I also send my best links, resources, and posts to my followers on twitter and ask them to digg or stumble the posts. This usually brings in a huge amount of traffic. When doing this make it extremely simple, though. Send them the actual link to digg or stumbleupon, so they don’t have to work. People are lazy and want instant gratification.

Another good tip is to help out other bloggers by forwarding their promotions to your followers, they may do the same for you some day. This can lead to some very interesting viral marketing.

16. Write your damn content, already! Last and foremost the #1 method to building a community blog is frequent posts. The more the better, I’ve said it a hundred times the more content you have,  the more traffic, comments, and interactive your site will become.

About this site:

This site has been up for about a year. However it was relaunched in March of 2008. Having been busy with other projects this site took a backseat. In 15 days, via a combination of extreme writing practices, a good design, and the use of social media, I have been able to consistently bring in about 400+ hits per day, some days as many as 1000.

Why you should Advertise Here:

This site, now is my main project. So far, I’ve been able to write 1-2 posts daily for an entire month. I’ve managed to get a few posts listed high on digg, and other social media sites.

I’ve also managed a few memes which have gone viral and brought in a lot of traffic, as well as garnered some very good inbound links from other’s blogs.

I also ran a very successful April Fool’s day campaign, bringing in even more visitors.

My subscriber count has gone up from 30 subscribers to 100 in 1 week.

Here are my current Alexa Standings (keep in mind 2 weeks ago, I was 2,000,000)

As you can see my rankings have skyrocketed.

Below is a graph showing how I compare with some well known A-list blogs. (Robert Scoble, Jason Calacanis, and John Cow), you can see where my blog begins to take off.

Yes, I still have some catching up to do. However they charge an arm and a leg for Advertising, where as my site is still new and growing, the Advertising hasn’t grown as costly.

What kind of ads are you selling?

  • 125×125 ads. $40/month. (5 available).
  • Rss Feed ads(3-4 lines of text + linked text at the bottom of my RSS Feed. $30/month. (Only 6 available).
  • Sponsored Reviews - I will do a max of 2 per week(8 per month). These are on a first come - first served basis. These are $60. I will write between 500 - 1000 words, plus post a minimum of 1-2 pictures relating to your Blog / Site.Besides just receiving the blog review, you will ALSO receive the benefit of having your review sent to all of my twitter-followers (2700 currently), plus all my rss subscribers, plus your post will be the top post on the homepage for a minimum of 12 hours.
  • Text Link Ads - I will link any 20 character phrase to a link of your choosing. $20/month.

GRAND OPENING SPECIAL:

If you were to buy 1 of every advertising package listed above, it would cost around $150.

For the month of April only - and ONLY for the first 4 Customers. You will receive ALL the ads listed above, for the low price of $110! That’s a whopping $50 discount.

That’s less than $4/day! Most people spend more than that on a latte!

Also - any advertising you buy, will be locked in at that price for 6 months, at which time it goes up to the current rates at that time.

31Mar Shoemoney Arrested for Riding-A-Bike While Drunk!

Shoemoney Arrested and Tazed!

Jeremy Shoemaker, aka Shoemoney was arrested Sunday night, for “Riding a Bike Under the Influence”. Apparently, and I agree, he thought it was better to ride a bike to the bar than a car, so as to prevent himself from getting a DUI. He did not know it is also illegal to Ride a Bike under the Influence.

Two cops, watching the establishment saw him leaving, followed him for a mile and arrested him.

It also seems that the cops claim he was resisting arrest, and they were forced to Taze him.

Shoemoney, swares he wasn’t resisting, and had only had 2 beers to drink. Shoemoney is talking with his lawyers, as to whether he is going to file charges against the cops, for unnecessary roughness.

I just can’t wait to see the youtube video! Lol.

Check out some of Shoemoney’s Best Blog Posts:

31Mar Problogger Darren Rowse - Is Filing for Bankruptcy! What are we to do?

UPDATE!!!! THIS POST WAS ONLY A JOKE.

Apparently someone posted it on Darren’s Wikipedia page, and all hell broke loose.

In order to keep seo continuity I won’t delete the post entirely - BUT I do want to let everyone know that it was just an April Fool’s day Joke. For all of those who say I was early. It was April Fool’s day in Australia at the time. Remember not everywhere in the world is sharing the same day / time that you are.

Apparently some have taken offense to this post, I do apologize to those, including Darren. I did not mean to defame your character or person. I hope this addendum to this post will prove that point.

Problogger is Bankrupt!

Darren Rowse, probably one of the most famous and talked about bloggers in the blogosphere is filing bankruptcy. Apparently, his blog has been a farce, and he was ‘faking it till making it’.

The truth is that he never was making it. The most he’s earned is $1000 in a month, which went to bandwidth fees, and server hosting. His wife is threatening divorce if he doesn’t call it quits.

He has spent his savings, and built up a lot in credit card debt, in order to be able to go to all the blogging conventions, and build up connections which he swore would make him rich, but never really delivered.

He states, that if I fail, then everyone does. Which makes sense since his blog is one of the most trafficked out there. He is the authority on making money blogging, and to find out the Authority is broke, is quite dis-heartening.

This truly is a sad day for blogging, as it - pretty much means that all of us trying to make money on this should give up and go home. Go back to school, or get a real job, at a factory or something.

Wait - why am I wasting my time writing this post then? I quit!

27Mar 7 Ways to be Best Buds with an A-List Blogger!

Wouldn’t it be nice to be best Friends with an A-list blogger? How about ten A-list bloggers?

1. Comment often - Commenting on A-List blogs is a good way to get your name in front of them.Remember they are regular people like you and me, the more they see your name, and see that you contribute to their site, the more likely they are to say yes when you try and offer a joint venture, or a guest post on their blog.

*One big tip on this make your comments stand out, build upon the original post, and make your comment provide extended value to their site, and even cite other posts that back up what you say, and you will soon become an authority.*

2. Follow them on twitter, and respond to them often, many of the A-list bloggers are on twitter, and contribute frequently. The bottom line is the more you provide to the conversation, the more they see your name, the more likely you are to get noticed.

3. Blog, blog often, and make it count. If you do happen to get noticed by an A-lister, it is likely they will subscribe to your feed, if you do receive their attention, you need to blow them away with great content so that they stay attentive to what you say.

Note this is often, just a good practice as it will ensure that you current subscribers stay very happy, afterall the more attention grabbing your blog, the more visitors.Even if you don’t build a ‘friendship’ with an A-lister, you may gain their attention enough to have them link to your blog, which will bring a lot of google-juice and traffic your way.

4. Diversify your efforts, as in all friendshipping efforts, you just may not be able to build rapport, they might not like you, something you said might push them away, or tick them off. Especially if you’re religious or political beliefs differ.

Don’t focus all your efforts on building rapport with one person, instead spread yourself across maybe 5-10 different high trafficked blogs that are relative to your content. You might make it a daily thing to post 1-2 comments per blog, or you could post like 5-10 comments per day on a different blog each day. For instance have monday be JohnChow, tuesday you might head over to Shoemoney, and wednesday might be Problogger Darren Rowse.

ONe more important tip - whichever strategy you implement, to be truly successful you MUST be consistant, the #1 cause of failure to any blog is failure to be consistant across the board.Blogging can provide a great income and be a lot of fun, once you get popular it can become a bit easier than starting out, but to get there is very hard work, consistant effort is a neccessity if you’re not willing to put in the hard work, then this business is not for you, and perhaps you should find something else that works better.

Harsh words, I know, but when you treat blogging like a business, it will begin to reap the rewards of a business.

5. Fake it till you make it! A lot of the stuff you blog about may be new to you, it may be confusing, you may not know all there is about blogging, or about plugins, or about social networks, and social media. The fact is you don’t need to know everything, but you need to act like you do - in a word. Confidence.

The “A” in “A-list” does not stand for Awesome, or A+ as in school work. It stands for Authority.

Whether or not you are an Authority on your Niche, you NEED to act like you are, and keep learning as much as possible, so that one day you will wake up and it will dawn on you…”Woah, I am an Authority, not just a BS’er!”

6. Your blog must say “I’m a professional Blog”.Here are a few tips for this:

  • Must have your own domain name. It is true, some blogs have taken off from blogspot, such as Kumiko’s, but eventually even she wised up and registered cashquests.com.A domain name basically says that you’re here to stay(at least for a year, till it expires - hopefully you make it past that 1st year).A domain name also helps with search engine rankings, for your brand (and yes your name can be your brand like John Chow or if you’re name is overly popular you can brand yourself as anything you like, eg: Shoemoney).

Lastly, wouldn’t it be terrible if you could’ve been John Chow, but started out at blogspot, someone saw that you were becoming famous, and they went out and bought yourname.com. Sure they might sell it to you for a couple thousand dollars.

  • Your blog design must be professional looking, it’s a wise idea to get a professionally designed blog theme - if you can afford it. I recommend starting out with a free one though, until your blog starts to take off, then purchase either a commercial one, or a custom. Also, here is a good post citing the pros and cons of pre-made blog theme vs custom blog theme.
  • You need subscribers, the more subscribers to your feed, the more trust you have, and ultimately the more, professional you will appear.Check out what Dosh Dosh has to say about why you absolutely need to build your blog’s subscriber base.
  • You must hold yourself to a higher standard.Nobody wants to communicate, follow, read, rantings of someone who is fast to start a fight, or demean someone.(Exception would be political blogs, where most of your readers are going to either support your same views, or be against - politics is one topic that can’t please all sides.

Though you can even be professional here, for instance, I usually refer to Bush in private as “the idiot”, “Dumbass”, “Retarded Drunk Monkey Boy”, but I might be a little more tactfull on my blog…or perhaps not(I’m using this as an example - and perhaps a sneaky way to vent & be unprofessional.))

  • Don’t over-do the plugins or widgets.Yes you can have too many plugins.Widgets and plugins are great, they add a lot to your blog, but they can also break your theme, and some plugins can conflict with each other and break your blog for a time, which equals less visitors.
  • Again I reiterate consistant effort, and you need a schedule for posting, which should include at least 1 post per day. Just figure you need at least 300-1000 posts to be on the level of the A-list bloggers, and if you post 1 a day, it might take you a whole year, maybe even two.Did you know to be on the level of Problogger (20,000 posts in 4 years!). That’s a bit much but you have to be posting consistently to measure up!Personally I strive for 2-3 posts per day or 14 minimum in a given week.

7. Last but not least, flattery goes a long way, as long as you’re sincere about it!You want to be sincere and let them know how much their tips help you, or you could simply link to their posts often, and re-iterate a lot of the things they say.

This might benefit you in pingbacks / trackbacks, but most importantly it is a good way to catch their eye, and let them know that you’re a reader.

Most professional bloggers want to make their readers happy, and knowing that you are enjoying their blog, linking to their blog, will catch their eye, and if they see something they like they might link to it.

One last bit of advice, if you do manage to become an Authority, think you have what it takes to guest blog on JohnChow, Shoemoney, Problogger, DoshDosh, etc… The best way to do it is write a list of topics you’re passionate about.

Write a sample post relating to one of those topics, be sure it includes lots of pictures as the best posts do use images in almost every post, (mine lack it sometimes because it’s hard to upload photos while I’m at work, and I usually write a lot of posts while on break. )

Your post needs to be extremely informative, and use a lot of line breaks, and be easy to read, as well as easy to scan. The more insightful, truthful, and witty the better. Adding humor is also welcome, but don’t go overboard.

Once you’re ready you should write up a professional letter and send it to their email if you can find it, if not submit it by their contact form, most of the top bloggers list at least one way or another to be contacted.

If you don’t hear anything back in 7 days, you should submit another letter, and ask them if they’ve considered your offer, if not - ask them if they could give you some tips on how you can better your chances of being accepted as a guest blogger(or insert another goal, if you want them to sponsor something, like perhaps your weightloss).

One last tip - give them love - digg their best posts, stumble a post if you like it, or share it on one of the many networks out there……And on that note, please do me a BIG favor and Digg this post. I would really appreciate it, and you’d definitely get on my good side.

Cheers!

15Mar About

Patrick Curl is the main Author of this blog.

Patrick has been inspired by many great bloggers, including the ones in his blogroll at the side. He believe’s wholeheartedly that a man who believes hard enough in his goal, works hard, and keeps a positive attitude, can achieve anything he sets out to do.

Many will argue that circumstance plays a big roll, but when you look at the greats(Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, The Wright Brothers, Leonardo Divinci, Michaelangelo, Galileo, even Jesus), they all came from different circumstances, some humble, some poor, some affluent, some had an easy life, some a harsh one. The thing that sticks out for them, the key to their success was their perserverence.

All of them failed many many times except one(at least by belief-system, as I’m a Christian - I of course allow you your own beliefs / opinions), the brilliant thing about each person, is that no matter how many times they experienced failure, they kept at it. No matter how hard things seemed, or how painful it got, they kept at it.

The key to being successful, is overcoming failure, in order to be successful you must be a failure first, we can’t learn to ride a bike without falling a few times first.
