NYPD’s Blue and Red are now Green!

Confusing, ain’t it?

The New York Police Department just added 40 Nissan Altima Hybrids to their fleet.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced that the Altimas are the first set of alternative vehicles to hit the police force, in an effort to meet the goals set by PlaNYC.

PlaNYC aims to reduce Manhattan’s greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2017.

The hybrids will be spread amongst multiple precincts with an emphasis on precincts with large coverage areas, and smaller ones that are prone to heavy stop-n-go traffic. Their essential goal is to make the most use of the hybrids to get the best economic and environmental impact.
