Actress Natalie Portman apparently is not just a pretty face, who’d have thought of her as a social media expert?
Natalie Portman along with Co-founder Christine Aylward (form EVP for Epoch Partners) have teamed up to launch their own film social network entitled: MakingOf.
MakingOf is a social network platform with an emphasis on building a network in the movie-making industry, and gaining education. The site features interviews and behind the scenes insights from top movie directors, actors, and producers.
The site has some major celebrity endorsements, and well designed website.
Currently MakingOf has four main sections.
1. Filming Now: Features recent film news and buzz of upcoming movies.
2. Insiders: “Wisdom from insiders on all aspects of film-making.” This features commentary from directors, producers, actors, cinematographers, composers, and more…
3. The Vault: In the vault you can see interviews, movie clips, on-set action, posters, photos, etc.
4. Community: This is where you can learn and interact with the film industry people.
Currently there’s a lacking of a lot of content, but I’m sure that as the site grows more content will be added. After all – youtube wasn’t built in a day.
MakingOf definitely has a long way to go towards being a thriving online community, but it’s definitely a network to watch.
The two things that are most important for it to succeed are better content, and increased community.
One thing that it has going for it is uniqueness. It is definitely a new spin on social media, and I’m excited to see if they can pull it off. After all – almost everybody loves movies, and who doesn’t like celebrities?
They also have a twitter account – but who doesn’t(Especially after Oprah’s show last week)
What do you think, will Makingof fly, or will it die?

Do you outsource your graphic work for your website? I like them and would be interested in knowing who did yours!
I can’t seem to get your RSS feed to work with my program. Do you mind telling me the url so I can read your posts on my own program?
