I read books from Napoleon Hill, Zig Ziglar, Leo Clements, John Milton Fogg, Richard Poe, etc. One problem is that I spent the entire time reading and studying...afraid to just go out and do it.

However, one book that changed my life, for the better mentally, would have to be Psycho-Cybernetics 2000, by the Maxwell Maltz Foundation, and Bobbe Summer, the entire book is written for the person who suffers from a poor self-image.. the person who keeps hearing words in his or her head like, "I'm not good enough", "Mom was right, I will never amount to anything", and a skew of negative thoughts about ourselves; about why we can't stop smoking, or lose weight, about our inability to have a successful relationship, and the list goes on..The bottom line is that I spent two years seriously searching my soul, *two years* afraid to START, and *two years* afraid of success, afraid that I wasn't worthy enough to be rich, and successful..

And then I stumbled upon the process known as the C.R.A.F.T. Process...

Step 1: Cancel Negative Thoughts...

Your walking along in the supermarket and you see a magazine featuring a supermodel or muscular hunk, and you think "I'm not sexy, girls like that get all of the men.. I'll never meet someone with my flabby thighs." When you are consciously aware of the negative thought say aloud CANCEL! When you say it aloud you surprise your subconscious mind, it not only hears it internally, but externally as well, and it is twice as powerful!

Step 2: Replace the Negative with a Positive...

John Milton Fogg likened our mind to a balance scale, that contains one thing--your habits of beliefs, these are the beliefs you have about yourself, it is pretty much synonymous with self-image; now on the one side of the scale are your positive beliefs: "I am a great driver", or "I am good at my job" etc.. on the other side are your negative thoughts these are thoughts which say the opposite of your positive side...

We live in a pessimistic society where 98% of our habits of belief weigh in favor of the negative..in order to change this we need to begin adding to the positive side...start weighing it down..and that is what affirmations do..ask anyone who is successful if they use affirmations and 99.998% will say yes--you betchya!

Let's put it all together-you walk by a magazine featuring a sexy supermodel, your first response is "I'll never be as sexy as her, no man will ever want me.." or "I could never get a girl like that with my body" then stop, say "Cancel" and say "I am beautiful/handsome in many ways, and I have many qualities that every man/woman would want in a woman/man...and I am sexy.."

Step 3: Affirm your new image to yourself!

This is really a re-emphasis of the previous step--only this time write out your affirmation on a note card and post it somewhere you are sure to see it frequently.. eg. bathroom mirror, car window, desk at work, etc...Also repeat your affirmations every time you do something that is part of your daily routine for instance whenever you brush your teeth, or walk into a certain room, or open a door...this way the affirmation will become a quick and unhindered thought process, and it will be completely natural, and automatic...

Step 4: Focus on an image of yourself already being successful!

In my networking business..I write out a vision of myself at least once a week, if I don't write it.. I walk myself through it verbally.. usually while I'm outside in nature..I personally like to look up at the stars and envision my new self...but choose what method and place works best for you...

This REALLY Does Work...Because your subconscious mind CANNOT tell the difference between a REAL Experience, and one that is VIVIDLY Imagined, so the more visual you are the more likely your subconscious mind will accept it! Use all of the senses... see yourself as a great trainer, and leader, a great public speaker, and networker, see yourself traveling the world conversing in languages that you cannot yet speak--fulfilling all of your dreams.. see yourself accomplishing goal after goal, and BE SPECIFIC!

Step 5: Train yourself for lasting change!

Your goal may be to try something new.. such as dancing, or painting. You may think "I cannot dance", or "I am no artist" well the previous steps in the craft process, talk of getting over the negative thoughts, but no matter how much of a positive self-image, you have regarding a specific goal or challenge, depending upon the goal, you will have to go through the motions. You may have to take dance lessons...

Now that you believe that you have the ability to dance you need to train yourself to bring it out, same goes for painting, you may need to take an art class. Networking--you may need to take a class on leadership, or relationship building, something along the lines of the Dale Carnegie courses ("How to Win Friends and Influence People")

In a nutshell the 5 step CRAFT process will make any self-image problems easier to overcome they will give you the "Courage to Succeed"

But be patient--'Rome wasn't built in a day', on average it takes between 4-6 weeks for your new self-image to boldly step forward. Do not get discourage!If you want it bad enough it will be yours!

In closing I'd like to say that, for me the hardest and most strenuous part to building my business, was taking that first step--it took me two years to work up the courage to take that step but when I did..the rest became easier, and now I even take my success for granted sometimes--just keep at it...

BatchGeo - Easily take spreadsheets or table data from the web and plot it on Google Maps.

BatchGeo is probably the easiest and coolest spreadsheet to Google Map conversion tool I've seen.

Using BatchGeo maps can be generated by spreadsheet files, or web tables, and can easily be saved for future use.

Possible uses:

  • Apartments Hunting visualize apartment locations that you find on Craigslist, or another apartment site.
  • Store Locators - all you need is a spreadsheet with all the addresses and you're all set.
  • List of parks, or bike paths.
  • Developing a sales route and maximizing travel time.
  • Vending Machine location visualization.
  • Any other type of map-able lists. The list goes on and on.

Failure is something that has plagued me, all my life.

Scenario 1: When I was 16 I enrolled in a program to take College classes and get highschool credit for it. I was a hard working highschool student, but college was a lot less structured, and I found myself not motivated to go to school.

Final Result? My 3.85 GPA went down to a 2.0, and I could never catch up on the credits I needed to graduate with my class. I was humiliated, and just gave up altogether. I went back and got a GED when I was 22, but that sense of failure has stuck with me.

Scenario 2: I was an avid boy scout, going to scout camp, working hard to get my life scout, working towards eagle. I was even tapped for Order of the Arrow at one point -  a prestigious elite group within the boy scouts. I worked hard to progress towards my Eagle Scout award.

Final Result: In the end I was only a few merit badges, and a service project away from my goal, but the time passed, I procrastinated, and couldn't get everything done in time.

Scenario 3: As a Mormon, we're encouraged to serve a 2 year mission for the Church. We are expected to pay as much of the living expenses as we can for those 2 years, and sometimes our home ward or branch can make up the difference.

Final  Result: I got into the credit trap at 18, and was 3000 in the hole by the time I was ready to go on a mission. I continued further into the debt trap, and am only now getting out if it, thanks to my success in blogging.

Scenario 4: I was 23 I took a huge chance - having never lived on my own, I uprooted myself, moved to Utah, and went to Massage School. I worked hard and graduated with a 3.56 gpa. At some points I was close to not making it, and just graduating felt great.

Final Result: I graduated, but never actually got licensed, and thus have not made one dollar from that profession.

Honorable Mentions: Weight issues have always plagued me, debt has always been a struggle, and I have been known to set many goals, and just let them fall by the wayside.This of course is in the past tense, which means that we can change our course, or direction in life. I did.

My Life Now: Now I swim 3 hours x 5 days a week. I've lost 150 lbs since January. My Blogs are bringing in $2,580 a month. I'm going back to school in the fall for Sustainability, and Renewable Energy. Update: Scratch that, I'm currently finished my first year, changed my major to web design and software development.

Moral of the story - we all have regrets, we all have failures that loom over our head. Sometimes it's really hard to come so far, only to fail at the last minute - but it's part of life. Life's best lessons are the one's that taste sour.

Sometimes we actually self-sabotage ourselves. I know I've often felt inadequate, which caused me to give up on a goal prematurely. Sometimes I felt unworthy of the success waiting at the end.

Now I know that I can do anything that I desire. I can be successful, I deserve it. Stay positive and never give up. Failure only brings you closer to your ultimate success.

Set Goals or DIE! Part 2: Traffic Goals

I wrote the first part of this series about a month ago, and it's taken me awhile to get back on topic. November has been a busy month for some of my other business ventures.

I've been doing a lot of ppc campaigns, as well as some blackhat techniques(shhhhh)...

In the first part of this series I spoke about setting and keeping a daily posting schedule of at least 1 post per day, but 3 is an ideal number. If you can post religiously 3 posts per day, your blog will be at the top of your niche in just a matter of months.

Today I'm going to talk about traffic building. Traffic is also paramount to a good successful blog. In fact traffic is the lifeblood. We include with traffic building - building followers or subscribers.

Here are a few steps on getting a lot more traffic.

1. Help people on forums. The more help you provide on forums like digital point, blackhatworld, or one specific to your niche, the more credibility you will build. Apply your link in the signature and you're sure to get a lot of new visitors and blog subscribers.

2. Use google trends. I've spoken about this a lot. Google trends is a great way to get some immediate traffic. If you have some other good posts at the ready, people will stay a lot longer and might even subscribe. One thing I've done though that I'd actually advise against is using this exhaustively.

I posted a large amount of posts related to google trends, and got a lot of traffic - but it wasn't the best quality because it didn't always match my blog's topic. Use this technique sparingly - but use it. I'd recommend posting 1 google trends blog post for every 5 normal blog posts.

3. Build backlinks. A great method I use for this is comment kahuna. This software finds blogs that remove do-follow and helps you write comments faster. One tip though: When writing comments try to find a post related to a post on your blog, then for your link back link to that post, not to the front page of your blog. This will build your google PR better, plus the people who visit your blog will be looking for similar information and will be more likely to subscribe.

4. Moniter your traffic. Part of setting goals is monitering what you're doing and seeing if you're making progress or not. I use statspress reloaded wordpress plugin, alexa, and google trends to track my traffic. I think it's best to use multiple tools so you can get a more realistic picture.

5. Tweak. To be successful in blogging you will always be tweaking your efforts. Find what works for you. There will be some things that work for one specific niche that would never work for another. Just keep working and researching new ways to gain traffic.

6. Newsletter. To build stickyness and repeat traffic it is highly recommended that you give away an ebook, and build a newsletter with it. You can see an example with my newsletter form at the top of this blog.

7. Set little goals. The best way to build anything is to set mini goals. For instance set a goal of 1000 unique hits for December. Then set a goal for maybe 1500 for the next month. Do what you need to do in order to get those hits and you will be pleasantly surprised that you might get a lot more.

Bottom line: Don't get discouraged, and never give up. You will succeed if you stick with it. Most big blogs began as small blogs. Also most big blogs took at least a year to build to big. It takes a lot of time and effort but in the end it is so worth it. It's recession proof. I make money each month regardless of the financial woes of the nation or world. That's job security.
