This makes me furious.. I don’t mind if someone pulls a snippet or paragraph or two from my blog, and links back to the source, even if they’re scraping to do it’s not that bad…in my opinion…however posting the entire post, making 1-2 small changes and calling it your own?
I never expected the Discovery Channel to do this, seriously this is messed up. Apparently Heather Sullivan over at the Discovery Educator Network, is nothing more than a scraper and a fiend. She should be punished royally. If any lawyers are out there reading this – and want to help in a legal case by all means contact me, I’ll even give you a 50/50 split of the lawsuit.
I originally made a post about Ping.fm, and Pingpress.fm. My post was titled: Intro to Ping.fm(In case you don’t know) and WordPress Plugin. Heather’s post is “Put Ping on Your Radar” which I found from a pingback to an automatically inserted link to a related post of mine for the keyword twitter.
I took a screen shot for legal reasons as well as to show you the similarities between her post and mine. Notice all of the links are the same, and the way ping.fm is in “” and bolded. Seriously heather you need to learn some etiquette, and the Discovery network needs to have some sort of moderation.
First my post:
Now for the scrapers’ post:
No related posts.

I do spot a similarity, and the name for that similarity would be “identical.”
What nerve!!!!!! I hope you nail them to the wall.
@Mamacita: Thanks for the encouragement. I’ve emailed the person in charge at discovery, I’ll forgo suing them however, I may still pursue a lawsuit with the blogger who posted it.
I do not know Heather Sullivan, but I am familiar with Discovery Education and I am confident that the company in no way condones this type of behavior. If you spot a pattern of abuse, I think you have a situation worthy of pursuit. Otherwise, I think you should give Heather Sullivan the benefit of the doubt and be gracious about this situation. You have made your point with Mr. Dembo, but post has been removed, so I would suggest that this case is closed. I read a news article today that talks about the openness of Web 2.0 and the inherent danger of such openness and sharing. We are all embarking into a new frontier, and there will doubtless be some bumps along the road. Thank you.
