Zemanta — Easy Semantic Blogging for Everyone

Alright. Via my google feed-reader I discovered this new service called Zemanta. I must say, it is kick-ass! It’s actually an odd plugin.

When you install it into firefox(only available platform currently), and log into your blog(in my case a wordpress blog). It shows you a sidebar in your blog, right where you categories generally are.

It tells you that after you write 300 characters it will give you content that is relative to your blogs. The more you right the more pictures, articles, and even tags it gives you.

Zemanta is a very nifty program, I highly recommend you try it. Probably the best thing about zemanta is the fact that it can take your writing to the next level, by providing easily inserted pictures and content. The semantic layer that it provides is awesome.

Another nifty feature of Zemanta is that it actually scans the web for Creative Commons Licensed content. So blogs will be able to post related images without the fear of being sued by angry artists and photographers.

Of course almost everything, these days has the chance of being abused, and it’s a pretty safe bet that Zemanta may see the birth of many splogs, of course only time will tell.

If you couldn’t tell – this post was actually written with the aid of Zemanta.

  • Patrick,

Thanks for this post and great service.

I think that there are lots of people that author their blogs not using IE or FF but using client tools such as Windows Live Writer (I do). It will be great having Zemanta plug in available for these tools too.

Hehe, yes my thoughts on sploggers are stretching it a bit :)

Looking forward to hear from you again! (possibly via email or getsatisfaction.com, since we cannot really follow all the blogs out there)

    - Andraz, hey thanks for the reply about your service. It really is an interesting addition to my blogging tools, I'll be looking forward to where it is headed.

As for sploggers contributing quality content - we definitely don't want htat, it'd put the rest of us out of business(already competitive enough..;)

    Hy from Zemanta!

    Thanks for your great review!

We are trying hard and making semantic web easily done for bloggers is one of our goals. Expect some interesting stuff in mid-future about that, but i don't want to spark too much imagination about it :).

We will try not to get abused. But if I joke a little bit, the dream would be to make Zemanta so good that even splogs become perfecly interesting and good content when using it. (not many people trying to tackle the splog problem from that angle I think :)

Anyway, being serious, if you have any more opinions, comments or ideas of where to move the service next, please share them with us via email or even better via http://getsatisfaction.com/zemanta where we can discuss things together with our readers!

Thanks again and I hope you will have lots of fun using Zemanta!

    bye
